About Jens Risom

Jens Risom (May 8, 1916 – December 9, 2016) was a Danish-American furniture designer and entrepreneur. He is widely recognized as one of the pioneers of mid-century modern design in the United States.

Caning

A technique in which the outer hull of the rattan vine is removed and used as a weaving material. It is usually woven in a hardwood frame to create a mesh that can serve as a chair seat or back, and is extremely flexible and strong. Caning dates back as far as 2nd Century India.

Walnut

Walnut is a type of wood that can be identified by its rich brown colors and firm and even texture. Walnut is considered one of the finest woods due to its beautiful and unique coloring, strength, and ability to be shaped. Walnut is used for both lumber and veneer.

Stretcher

A stretchers is a stabilizing support rail which runs horizontally between furniture legs. These often form X, H, or Y shapes in conjunction with the outside rails.
