This furniture is influenced by Georgian and Adam styles, and are characterized by sharp geometric forms, straight legs, contrasting veneers, and inlay patterns. These pieces were most commonly made with mahogany; however, cherry, pine, and maple were also used. The most common ornament on this period of furniture was the eagle.

A Hitchcock chair is small side chair created by Lambert Hitchcock during the period of 1820 to 1850. It has an oval top rail and cane or rush seat and is usually decorated with a stencil of fruit and flowers.
