About Jack Roth

Jack Roth (1927 - 2004) was an American painter, poet, photographer and mathematician. Roth was associated with the second generation Abstract Expressionism and Color Field painting. He studied under prominent artists such as Mark Rothko Clyfford Still, and Richard Diebenkorn at the California School of Fine Arts. Roth’s work is characterized by thin contour lines, soft forms, and expressive use of color. His unique style incorporates elements of both abstraction and figuration, often employing a lyrical, almost poetic approach to form and space. In 1979, he received a Guggenheim Fellowship in painting, recognizing his significant contributions to the field.
