Victorian
Period in English furniture during the reign of Queen Victoria 1837-1901. Consists of a resurrection of many previous periods and revival imitations including: Gothic, Tudor, Elizabethan, Rococo, and Neoclassic style. This period had a focus on dark woods, heavy fabrics, embellishment, engagement with newly developed imitation materials that were facilitated by the Industrial Revolution, and a tendency towards eclecticism.
Girandole
An ornately branched candlestick, evocative in its design of a chandelier, typically featuring decorative crystals, beaded swags, and other embellishments. They became popular in the second half of the 17th Century and were often used in pairs as one would use candelabra. The term can also refer to an elaborately decorated sconce or wall bracket with a mirrored backplate, designed as such to reflect the candlelight.
